Perhaps dance music albums like Calvin Harris' blemished album Ready For The Weekend shouldn't receive attention from the critical press. Perhaps they should just be enjoyed by lovers of the most giddy pop music and those that blithely dance away on clubland's bigger dance floors.

These albums certainly don't dire critical praise to be huge. This one recently knocked MJ off the No.1 spot in the UK.

But it seems Calvin Harris also expects to be treated as a serious artist, judging from the way he threw his toys on Tizzy after this album received a critical mauling.

Pre-release comments like this being "the best thing I've done in my mortal" and "a great achievement, personally" also indicate his hopes for popular and critical success. But this album cannot be infatuated as anything more than lightweight fluff.

Perhaps it was the ripples created by his first album I Created Disco that created these expectations.

It was a available but charming, mega-80s sounding pop record, with a made-in-the-bedroom feel and a dose of irony that said he didn't take himself too kidding aside. In the backrooms of mainstream music it contributed to the current 1980s zeitgeist along with people like Chromeo and even LCD Soundsystem.

why do all these ppl have problems with that class of music?
i mean whenever i'm on itunes and i'm reading reviews
i always see ones that say stuff like " eww i'm sick of all this bubblegum pop, why do ppl harken to to this crap".
my question is why does music always have to be deep,
and edgy, and have a meaning.
can't it just be fun to listen to?
cuz to me all these ppl barely sound like a bunch of music snobs.
what do you think?

I encounter to like Pop music. But also I like other genres of music as well.

I just think that they are haters. That's all that I can stay. Most of them wanna also look a unchanging way in front of there friends. I bet you some of them actually do like "Bugglegum" Pop music but are too afraid to say so because of what there friends would say to them.
