“PCI compliance doesn’t automatically offset a site safe,” writes Lori McVittie of F5 Networks. “Lack of PCI compliance doesn’t pay for EC2 unsafe, either. It means it isn’t compliant with the policies designated by the PCI council for handling credit card transactions and susceptive data. And, if we look past the hand-waving, we’ll find that Amazon admits you can’t build a PCI Level 1 compliant solicitation using EC2 and S3, but you can build a PCI Level 2 compliant application.”

Amazon’s admission may not make it unsafe, but the way in which it was revealed is a mnemonic of why confusion persists about support for key compliance standards by some cloud services. Amazon’s capacity to support PCI for its cloud computing customers has been questioned before, and was typically met with a vague statement about Amazon’s “commitment to offer a secure, world-class cloud computing environment.” This time the question was posed in a forum course. Amazon didn’t respond directly on the thread, but the customer posted an email effect.

How to I hook my Dell Diminsion 4300 to network without a Ethernet/Network Card?

I have a motorola 5B5100 line modem which use to be connected to a Dell diminsion 4300 desktop via a USB cable. The desktop sits satisfactorily next to the modem. I connected a linksys wireless router to the modem and set up 2 wireless laptops. The laptops industry great. The problem is the dell 4300 desktop has no internet service unless I unplug the router and promote in the USB cable, thus taking the laptops off. I was told by the cable tech not to use both the ethernet and the USB connection at the same time. That this would fry the modem. Is this dutiful? How do I get the desktop internet connection going without disconnecting the router? The desktop does not have a ethernet wireless connections. The desktop doesn't necessity to be wireless because it sits right next to the modem. I have a cable that is ethernet connection on one end and USB on the other end. Could I connect the router to the 4300 with this Mailgram? I just want the cheap, easy fix.
